Miami Urban Contemporary Experience invites visual artists to submit works in all media for this ensemble of exhibitions. Eligibility is open to all performance, installation, traditional and new media artists. All entries must be of original design and personal execution.
“ODE TO HIP HOP” serves as a visual representation of a genre that influenced a generation. Themes considered for exhibition include the musical and political foundations of hip hop such as: Jazz, R&B, Soul, sampling, socioeconomics disparities, urban living, etc.
Artists are overall encouraged to submit work that depicts Hip Hop’s influence in fashion, music, dance, culture, politics, fads & trends over the past 4 and a half decades. The exhibit is open to honor and to critique of the genre.

Submissions: All submissions must go through MUCE Submission
If you are considering to develop new work specifically for ODE TO HIP HOP, You must also include a short description of concept with sketches of your design.

Size: There is no size limit to submissions. If proposing a site specific installation, video or performance, provide links to current & past work when submitting.
Deadline: All submissions must be received by July 19, 2019. Click here to submit.
Notification Date: Friday, August 16, 2019
If invited to exhibit, there is a non-refundable exhibition fee of $75 plus $10 hanging fee per selection.
Delivery of Works: All selected works must be delivered between November 11 -15, 2019 and picked up no later than Saturday, December 21, 2019. MUCE is not responsible for any works after that date. The artists will be assessed a storage fee of $30 fee per day beginning December 22, 2019.
Installation-ready: Each accepted entry must be installation-ready, framed or encased, with appropriate hanging hardware and installation instructions, and clearly labeled with artist’s name and title of the work. Sculptures will be floor placed although some will be displayed on platforms. Test your framing/presentation before delivery . Please remember that the presentation of your work is as important as the object, and deserves extra care and consideration. MUCE retains the right to reject works from the exhibition at any time, at their discretion.
Exhibition: December 1 - December 15, 2019. Opening/Closing reception : TBA
Duration: Accepted work may not be withdrawn before the close of the exhibition on Sunday, December 15, 2019*.
Proper arrangements must be made if only exhibiting during Art Basel weekend.*
Insurance: MUCE will have event liability insurance. All artists are encouraged to provide additional insurance. The area will be under 24 hour surveillance during the duration of the exhibit.
Photography: The Gallery may photograph the work for reproduction in the catalogue, and use images of submitted artwork to publicize and promote the exhibition and any future exhibitions, catalogues and calls for entry.
